about

Commentary by Takumaro Kaibara

This work started with the idea that the three of us (me, Jap Sakaki, and Robert Maxwell) would co-produce a Vocaloid album (all featuring Hatsune Miku) last year. Each DTM added Hatsune Miku's vocals, guitar, bass, and rhythm section, and in the end everyone did the arranging and editing work. I didn't intend for it to be a concept album, but Jap (Shigeru) had the idea of deciding on a theme for the album's consistency, and we agreed. The theme of the songs was "to express the shock that feels like the galaxy is shattering when our first love ends." I decided to create it using the unused tracks from the shoegaze albums that Jap (Shigeru) and I made together. In my image, it had a rough guitar sound, irregular rhythms and harmonies, and a shimmering and shattering feeling (tracks 1, 2, 7, and 10 are my works). And Jap (Shigeru) included three unused instrumental tracks for a shoegaze album (tracks 3, 6, and 9). And, being lazy as always, Shigeru only submitted track 5, which is pretty good. However, with his typical bright pop style, the song sounds like he's ready for his next love, and the difference in our personalities is clear. Robert's two beautiful ballad tracks (4 and 8) are dominated by his typical transparent and sentimental tone. (Jap also participates on track 4 on guitar) When it was completed, it was obvious that my DTM technique was immature. (In those tunes, I couldn't understand what the Vocaloid lyrics were saying, and the drums sounded cheap.) I'm thinking of adapting them symphonically later. Once completed, it has a certain kind of narrative quality to it, and I think it's a pretty amazing album.
